Enterprise Cloud Computing: The Enterprise Cloud Market in 2018

Enterprise Cloud Computing, or just the cloud in business, is a huge success. IDG has just published an extensive study on the state of play of this vast market in 2018.

If the Cloud meets a growing success with the general public, it is in business that this technology knows its real growth. In order to discover the trends of Enterprise Cloud Computing in 2018, IDG interviewed 550 decision-makers from companies in various sectors.

Among the main information highlighted by this study, we find that 77% of companies have at least one application or part of their IT infrastructure on the cloud. 15% plan to adopt cloud applications and platforms over the next 12 months.

On average, the companies surveyed plan to invest $ 3.5 million in cloud applications, platforms and services for the whole of 2018. In total, the cloud represents 30% of the 2018 computer budgets. These budget shares would be split between SaaS (48%), IaaS (30%) and PaaS (21%).

The study also reveals that businesses are primarily seeking to use cloud applications and platforms to accelerate the delivery of IT services. This is the case for 76% of them. Previously, the cloud was seen primarily as a way to reduce costs.

The industries in which industries are under the most pressure to become 100% cloud-based on the part of executives are manufacturing, high-tech and telecommunications. Also, 95% of businesses will rely on the SaaS model for application delivery within 18 months. The IaaS will reach 83% and the PaaS 73%.

For 54% of the companies surveyed, IT divisions need to collaborate more with other departments as a result of cloud investments, as the cloud forces rethinking the organisational structure of IT divisions.

Finally, the two areas of application with the most excellent opportunities for cloud migration are data analysis and disaster recovery. Thus, 49% of the companies surveyed plan to migrate their disaster recovery to the cloud in 1 to 3 years. Similarly, 45% plan to relocate their Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse and Data Analytics applications to the cloud in 1-3 years.
